Carlson Gracie Garden Grove, Checkmat, and Outliers (San Diego) each achieved first podium positions in the Youth competition at the Jiu Jitsu World League World Championships last weekend in Los Angeles.
For the second consecutive year, Carlson Gracie Garden Grove walked away with the Academy Championship (awarded for the best performance of an individual academy). Brazilian Top Team Norwalk and Art of Jiu Jitsu (Costa Mesa) earned second and third podium positions respectively in the face of high level competition. While Carlson Gracie Garden Grove remain firmly in first place for the 2018 season, six leading academies will wage battle for the remaining two podium positions: Outliers (SD), Checkmat Murphjitsu (San Jose), Pinnacle MMA (Redlands), Kola Ajose (East Bay SF), AOJ (Costa Mesa), and Gracie Barra Carlsbad.
Checkmat won the Team Championship (the most points for an entire organization) with Gracie Barra and Carlson Gracie earning second and third places, respectively. Checkmat remains in first place followed by Carlson Gracie and Gracie Barra.Â
For the Elite 8 competition, Outliers (SD) extended their 2018 Season by winning again. Newcomer BTT Norwalk proved their quality by winning second place and road warriors Kola Ajose (Bay Area) captured third place.Â
Rankings can change rapidly and dramatically from event to event. The final four events of the regulars season (Texas, Phoenix, San Diego, and Bay Area) promise to set up an epic battle to decide who will achieve the final podium positions and who will be crowned the 2018 Season Champions at the Playoffs (bonus point event) on December 8 at Orange County.
